The Smokefree Air Challenge

The American Lung Association (ALA) is actively campaigning for a comprehensive smokefree legislation across the US - the so-called Smokefree Air 2010 Challenge.

According to ALA, there are currently only twenty-three states, plus Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia which have already passed comprehensive laws that protect people indoors -including workers and customers in restaurants and bars- from secondhand smoke. Secondhand smoke: even a little bit can do big damage

You’d think that because you are a nonsmoker, you are safe from the adverse effects of cigarettes. Actually it all depends on your environment.

It’s called secondhand smoking or passive smoking - and it happens when nonsmokers inhale cigarette smoke in the surroundings - in places such as restaurants, bars, and other public places where smoking is still allowed.
